Fairhope, AL. — The Original Oyster House honored two Baldwin County art students with our 4th Annual Chelsea Garvin Spirit Award Scholarship Program. This is the forth year we have given scholarships to area students in the name of Chelsea, a former Fairhope High School art student, Fish river Fire Department Rescue Diver and Original Oyster House employee. Tragically, Chelsea was killed in a boating accident in the fall of 2005.
On May 6, 2009 at the South Baldwin Center for Technology graduation ceremony David Dekle owner of the Original Oyster House restaurant presented Michael Scott Jones Jr. with one of two $1000 scholarships. Michael has been accepted to Reid State Technical College in Evergreen, Alabama to pursue a degree in pipe welding. In addition, to being artistic Michael is already a very talented welder and has been honored with several scholarships for his welding abilities.
On May 14, 2009 Deanna Galanti a very talented Fairhope High School senior was honored with the other $1000 scholarship to attend either the University of Alabama or the University of South Alabama to pursue her love of art, graphic design and photography.
Congratulations to both of these talented and deserving art students, they are shining examples of what is right with Baldwin County school art programs.
