at the Original Oyster House
After first joining the Original Oyster House in high school as a hostess, Rebecca Walter climbed a career ladder and has been promoted to Banquet Room Coordinator. A graduate of the University of South Alabama with a degree in Strategic Communications, Walter interned her junior year in the marketing department at the Original Oyster House. In college, Walter became a suite attendant and receptionist for the Mobile Bay Bears. In 2017, while volunteering at a fundraiser for a 12-year old girl with cancer in the Banquet Room at Original Oyster House, Walter again impressed the marketing director with her work ethic and professionalism.
“I was so thrilled to have Rebecca back as a volunteer, I actually said, can you come intern again with us. She responded, no I graduated. You should hire me. And the seed was planted,” said Cecilia Mace, marketing director of the Original Oyster House.
In August of 2017, Walter was hired as the marketing assistant for the Original Oyster House. She had freelanced prior as a social media coordinator for the retail stores. Walters was promoted this December as Banquet Room Coordinator which offers more opportunity for growth.
“With her background experience in hospitality, marketing and event planning, the promotion is a great fit for her skill set,” said her new boss Jim Harrison, the general manager of the Original Oyster House on the Mobile Causeway. “After the banquet room renovation in August, Rebecca helped stage the venue for a wedding rehearsal and photo shoot. With an amazing view of the Mobile Delta and skyline, we wanted someone who is passionate about the restaurant and this 2,000 square foot space as well as our area. Rebecca will do a great job.”
Walter is a member of Chi Omega, Lambda Pi Eta Communications and Order of Omega Honor Society. She has been recognized as the 2013 outstanding new member of Chi Omega and has volunteered as public relations chair, honor society treasurer, as well as served on the philanthropy committee and executive board.
The Original Oyster House has become the “must-go-to” place for great fresh Gulf seafood, service and southern hospitality and for its panoramic waterfront sunsets. A top-spot for hand-shucked and fire-grilled oysters, the Original Oyster House has also become legendary for its homemade gumbo, cheesy grits with blackened shrimp, as well as handcrafted desserts including its famous peanut butter chocolate chip pie.
