The Original Oyster House restaurants honored over 850 Mobile and Baldwin County law enforcement, firefighters and paramedics at its Never Forget FREE Lunch on Monday, September 11, 2017. The 10th Annual Never Forget Lunch was established in honor of the 9/11 First Responders who risked their lives and also to recognize all first responders for their service. “We want to do our part to honor, thank and practice what we preach in never forgetting those who run into dark alleys, burning buildings and toward danger to protect and save,” said David Dekle, co-founder of the Original Oyster House.
In its third year, the blood drive at the Mobile Causeway location sponsored by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in memory of 9/11 victims, again encompassed friendly competition between Firefighters, Law Enforcement and EMTs. “25 units of blood were collected which equates to saving around 75 lives. The firemen became the new winners this year for the most donations,” stated Angela Williams, district community development coordinator. All blood donations collected will be distributed to hospitals in Mobile, Baldwin, and Escambia Counties.
Several attractions including Visit Mobile, Gulf Coast Duck Boat, USS Alabama Battleship, GulfQuest Museum, Forte Conde, Delta Wildlife Safaris and Airboat Express joined the Original Oyster House to pay tribute to first responders and provided free admission or discounted admission. Dan Mason of iHeart Radio provided a live broadcast from the Mobile Causeway location.
