Point Clear, Ala. On Jan. 14, 2015, The 2014 Polo at the Point culminated at Sonny Hill Farms with a recognition lunch for volunteers, sponsors, committee members and recipients of funds raised from the event. Point Clear Charities (PCC), the hosts of the Polo at the Point event, recognized the Oyster Trailblazer Calendar/Oyster Trail and donated $2,000 to the program.
The Oyster Trailblazer Calendar is a 101 course on oysters, sharing their abundant benefits that include cleaning our waters, protecting our shorelines from erosion and feeding us with some of the tastiest and most sought after cuisine while providing huge nutritional benefits.
The calendar includes the Oyster Trail sculptures scattered along the Gulf Coast. Each life size oyster is embellished by local artists and tells important facts about oysters including their economic and environmental impact. The calendars also feature over $75 in free offers from the Original Oyster House restaurants and other coupons. Understanding the immense importance of oyster reef restoration, the Original Oyster House and Oyster Trail designed the calendars to raise needed funds for oyster gardening and environmental education.
The Oyster Trail/Mobile Bay Oyster Gardening Program is a volunteer based project which focuses on education, restoration/enhancement, and research. Now in its eleventh year of operation, Oyster Gardeners have produced nearly 700,000 oysters for restoration and enhancement efforts within Mobile Bay. The Original Oyster House has become the “must-go-to” place for seafood on the Gulf Coast, southern hospitality and for its panoramic waterfront sunsets. Fire-grilled oysters are just one of many appetizing enticements for seafood lovers. You will also find “oyster cams” throughout the restaurant that capture the sizzle, flame and culinary entertainment of oyster grilling along with the incredible aroma and savory sounds.
